STUDENTS INVEST IN TECH—AND IN THEIR FUTURES

Finance students are managing more than $10 million of the university's endowment—and gaining remarkable training for their future careers. Students run the SEED program, a $5 million-plus equity portfolio, and the BASIS program, handling more than $5 million in bonds and other fixed-income securities, on their own as extracurricular activities, with guidance from faculty advisors.

NON-NATIVE SNAKES THREATEN EVERGLADES MAMMALS

Pythons are rapidly depleting mammal populations in the swamps of southern Florida. Post-doctoral researcher John "J.D." Willson has identified steep declines—including 99.3 percent among raccoons, 94.1 percent for white-tailed deer, and 87.5 percent for bobcats—among mammals once common in the Everglades.
